gdbasket ("we," "our," or "the platform") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Who We Are
gdbasket is operated by Dmytro Matvieiev. We are a small, independent platform with a mission to make real human kindness visible. For questions or requests, contact us at i@gdbasket.com.
2. Data We Collect
Account data
When you register, we collect your email address, a nickname or display name, and your password (stored as a secure hash — never in plain text). You may optionally add your real name, a short bio, and a general location label (city or region).
Content you share
When you share a deed, we store the text you write, any photos or videos you upload, and the location you associate with the deed (city or region name and coordinates, or a precise point if you choose place or pin mode). We also store your reactions to other deeds and any comments you leave.
Technical data
We store your IP address for rate limiting and abuse prevention. This data is not sold or used for targeting.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use gdbasket. Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data including page views and browser information. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
Language preference
We store your language preference in a cookie and in your browser's local storage to remember your interface language. This is a functional setting, not a tracking mechanism.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Provide and operate the gdbasket platform
- Send account emails (email verification, password reset)
- Detect and prevent abuse and spam
- Understand usage patterns to improve the platform (via Google Analytics)
- Translate deed content on your explicit request (via OpenAI)
We do not use your data to show you targeted advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
Mapbox
We use Mapbox for maps and geocoding (translating location names into coordinates). When you use location features, your search query is sent to Mapbox. Mapbox Privacy Policy
OpenAI
When you request a translation, the text of the deed or comment is sent to OpenAI's API. Translations are only made when you explicitly request them. OpenAI Privacy Policy

5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account exists. Photos and videos you upload are deleted when you remove them from your deed.
If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — update or correct your data through profile settings
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and personal data
- Portability — request your data in a portable format
- Objection — object to certain processing activities

7. Cookies
We use one functional cookie (locale) to remember your language preference. This cookie is not used for tracking or advertising. Google Analytics also sets cookies — you can opt out at any time using the link in Section 2.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, signed tokens, and rate limiting on authentication endpoints. No internet transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
gdbasket is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised date. Continued use of gdbasket after changes means you accept the updated policy.
