Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
gdbasket ("we," "our," or "the platform") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask of us.
See also our Terms of Service.
1. Who We Are
We are a small, independent platform with a mission to make real human kindness visible. For questions or requests, contact us at i@gdbasket.com.
2. What We Collect
- Account details — your email address, a nickname or display name, and a password. You may also add a real name, a short bio, a profile photo and a general location (a city or region, and approximate coordinates for it — an area, not an address).
- What you share — the text of your deeds, the photos and videos you upload, the locations you attach to them, your comments, and your reactions to other people's deeds.
- Usage and technical information — how the platform is used, and limited technical information such as your IP address, which is used briefly to prevent abuse and is not kept.
We use cookies and your browser's storage for functional purposes: keeping you signed in and remembering your language. Analytics cookies are covered in Section 5.
3. Why We Use It
We use your data to run gdbasket: to publish and display your deeds, to let people find and respond to them, to send account and notification emails, to prevent abuse and spam, and to understand how the platform is used so we can improve it.
We do not show you targeted advertising, and we do not sell your data.
4. AI-Assisted Features
Some parts of gdbasket are assisted by AI, provided by OpenAI:
- Deeds are translated automatically into the languages the platform supports, so that a deed can be read by people who do not share the author's language. This happens without the author asking for it. The original text is always kept.
- Comments are translated only when someone asks.
- Short titles and descriptions are written from a deed's own text so that it can be found.
- Posts for our social media channels are drafted from a deed's text, as described in Section 6.
Only text is processed this way. Photos and videos are never sent to OpenAI.
5. Third-Party Services
- Mapbox — maps and turning place names into coordinates. Your location searches are sent to Mapbox. Privacy Policy
- OpenAI — the AI-assisted features in Section 4. Privacy Policy
- Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics, using cookies. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on. Privacy Policy
- Sentry — technical error reports, so we can fix problems. These do not include your name or email address. Privacy Policy
- Social platforms — Reddit, Threads and Instagram, as described in Section 6. Reddit · Meta
We share your data with these services only as far as the platform needs, and we do not sell it to anyone.
6. Public Content and Social Media
Deeds are public. Anyone can read them, and they appear in the feed, on the map and in search engines.
gdbasket also has its own social media accounts, and may share a deed there as an example of what the platform is for. Such a post may include a description of the deed, the photos or videos attached to it, a link back to gdbasket and — if your profile is public — your display name. Section 5 of the Terms of Service sets out the permission this rests on.
We cannot withdraw something once it has been published elsewhere. Deleting a deed or your account removes it from gdbasket, but copies already published on another platform may remain there.
7. Retention and Deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists.
You can delete individual deeds and comments at any time, and you can delete your account from your profile settings. When you delete your account:
- Your personal details are removed and the account is closed.
- Deeds and comments you leave behind stay on gdbasket and are shown as written by a deleted user, without a link to any profile.
- You may choose to remove your deeds, your comments, or both.
- Copies already published elsewhere may remain — see Section 6.
Removing content makes it no longer publicly available. Copies may remain in our records and backups for a limited period. We also keep a restricted record of the deletion itself, including your former email address and display name, for security, legal, abuse-prevention and support purposes; those details are later removed in line with our retention practice.
Registering again with the same email address creates a completely new account. Nothing from a deleted account is restored or connected to it.
8. Your Rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, receive it in a portable format, and object to certain processing. Some of these you can do yourself in your profile settings.
To exercise any of them, email us at i@gdbasket.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections. Passwords are stored in protected form and never in plain text. No internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised date. Continued use of gdbasket after changes means you accept the updated policy.
