After a storm, several trees had fallen across a forest road, making it difficult or impossible to drive through. This road isn't just used by people enjoying the forest. It also serves as an important alternative access route for emergency vehicles. If a forest fire were ever to break out—whether from natural causes or falling missile debris—firefighters might need to use this road to reach the area quickly. I took my chainsaw into the forest and spent some time cutting the fallen trees into pieces and clearing the road so it would be passable again. I hope this road never has to be used in an emergency. But if that day ever comes, it's better to know the way is open than to discover it's blocked.
